After obtaining a degree in Electrical Engineering and spending 15 years working with factory automation and information systems, in 2001 Audre Vysniauskas made a major career change and, signing herself just "audre", became a full-time illustrator.
A passionate advocate of the use of computers in creating art, she was the founder and original Editor-in-Chief of Renderosity Magazine which was sold in both the US and European markets. She was also the Director of Art Show Sales and ran the Digital Art Section at the annual celebration of the fantastic, Dragon*Con, where 30 thousand fans join together each year. She has founded and co-owns several companies focused on exploring ways for artists to expand their markets including a small web hosting company that caters to the arts.
Joined with Hugo-, World Fantasy- and Chesley Award-winning writer John Grant (Paul Barnett), she published DIGITAL ART FOR THE 21st CENTURY, a scrumptious coffee table book displaying the cutting edge of digital art. The book was selected for inclusion in Locus Magazine's Editor's Choice, 2004 Recommended Reading List. The book showcases a stunning variety of the very best of modern digital art, including human forms, fantasy, science fiction, abstracts, portraits, fractals, landscapes, and much more. Each artist brings to this collection a unique style and approach, together creating the most comprehensive published collection of modern digital art to date.
On a more technical side and with co-author Denise Tyler, she authored -- and was technical editor on -- the absolute 'must have' handbook for Poser software users: PRACTICAL POSER 6. Even several releases later, this book remains a staple for anyone interested in using Poser for the creation of digital art. After market sales remain strong, so much that at times the price on Amazon for the book goes as high as $140.00! Still popular, this hefty software manual rates 5 stars with 17 reviews! One reviewer writes "Practical Poser is the book that should come with Poser."
Always pushing the digital envelope, she enjoys tying together varied sources in experimental art, often incorporating fractals, photographs, and other unlikely elements in her work. She's been the artist guest of honor at several conventions and been asked to speak about her digital experiences and fractal innovations. She remains extremely active in the digital arts community, having contributed to various digital imaging conferences, conventions, and magazines. She has no immediate plans to sleep much for the next 20 years.
Her work can be found in the likes of Cemetery Dance, music cds and on the covers of various science fiction, fantasy, and horror books. She's been interviewed by quite a few publications, including Computer Graphics World magazine, and her art was selected for display in the Museum of Computer Art.
